However, memorizing the Quran is not easy. Many individuals face difficulties due to age, time constraints, or abilities. So, how can we help our children memorize the Quran effortlessly from an early age?
Here are several tips you can follow to teach your children Quran memorization from an early age:
1. Introduce the Quran to Babies
An effective approach to train your children in Quran memorization is by introducing them to the Quran from infancy. This is supported by research suggesting that repeated exposure to the Quran from birth makes memorization easier.
Ustadz Adi Hidayat, a renowned scholar and preacher, provides a valuable tip for enabling children to memorize the Quran with ease. He recommends playing one "juz" (section) of the Quran to newborns for the first month of their lives. In the subsequent months, introduce a different "juz," and continue this pattern until 30 months have passed. This way, within 30 months (2.5 years), the child will have listened to all 30 "juz" of the Quran.
By following this approach, your children will grow accustomed to hearing the recitation of Quranic verses from a young age. Additionally, this method enhances brain impulses, making it easier for children to memorize the Quran.
2. Teach Children to Read the Quran
After your children become familiar with hearing the Quran from infancy, the next step is to teach them how to read it. Learning to read the Quran is a fundamental duty for every Muslim and should be started early.
Teaching children to read the Quran can commence around the age of 3 or when they can speak fluently. You can employ various methods that suit your child's abilities and interests, such as using "iqra" books, digital applications, or a Quranic teacher.
Consistency and patience in teaching your child to read the Quran are essential. Avoid pressuring them to read too quickly or too much. Offer praise and rewards when your child successfully reads a page or a surah (chapter).
3. Encourage Recitation Practice
Once your children can read the Quran proficiently, the next step is to encourage them to practice their memorization. Repeated practice is a key factor in successfully memorizing the Quran.
Recitation practice can be done in various ways, such as listening to Quranic tapes or MP3s, reading from a physical copy of the Quran, or writing in a notebook. The crucial aspect is to establish a routine for regular recitation practice.
You can create a dedicated schedule for recitation practice with your children, such as every morning before school or every night before bed. You can also divide the memorization into sections, such as per surah, per "juz," or per page.
4. Foster Love for the Quran
A final and equally important tip is to motivate your children to develop a genuine love for the Quran. Cultivating love for the Quran is a factor that will drive your children's enthusiasm and dedication to memorize it.
There are numerous ways to inspire your children to love the Quran. Examples include setting a positive role model, encouraging interactions with individuals who have memorized the Quran, or involving them in competitions or activities related to the Quran.
Furthermore, you can explain to your children the virtues and benefits of memorizing the Quran, both in this world and the hereafter. Share inspiring stories of hafiz and hafizah (those who have memorized the Quran), or engage them in reading books that discuss the miracles of the Quran.
