Buzzfeed Uses AI to Create Travel Articles with the Help of Human Editors

Buzzfeed, the New York-based digital media company, has joined forces with Cnet to develop artificial intelligence (AI) technology for creating travel articles.

Buzzfeed has created its first AI-generated travel article, an ad-lib quiz, which is considered safe and not prone to errors. The article was developed with the name "Buzzy" and is currently available in 44 articles on popular destinations such as Morocco, Stockholm, and Cape May, New Jersey.

Each travel article created with Buzzy the Robot's assistance is accompanied by a sentence stating that the article was collaboratively created by humans and Buzzy.

In writing travel articles, Buzzy the robot and human editors are involved in the writing process, with a lot of input from both parties. Futurism observed that many of the articles included common phrases such as "now I know what you're thinking" and almost all of Buzzy's writing uses the phrase "hidden gem."

According to The Verge, the staff involved in creating travel articles are not editorial staff, but rather business and sales staff at the company. This is because the first collection of travel articles was created with input from employees who were not part of Buzzfeed's editorial team. However, Juliana Clifton, a Buzzfeed spokesperson, said that human editors are still involved in the writing process.

Buzzfeed also plans to use their AI tool to help write articles based on reader contributions in the future. They hope to create a new format that allows anyone (with or without a formal background in writing or content creation) to contribute their unique ideas and perspectives on their site.

However, human editors are still involved in this process, and the company is looking for ways to incorporate humans as collaborators and editors.

Buzzfeed's experiment with AI-written travel guides is the latest step since their announcement in January that they were using OpenAI's tools to personalize content. Previously, Cnet also used AI to generate articles but discontinued the practice after it was revealed to the public.

By using AI technology, Buzzfeed hopes to provide more personalized and diverse content for their readers around the world.
