Surprising Survey Results
A recent study by the Lower Saxony Criminological Research Institute (KFN) has unveiled that a significant portion of Germany's young generation, especially students, support the implementation of Islamic law. The survey indicates that nearly half of Germany's young people believe that Sharia law is a good legal system.
According to a report from Kathimerini on April 24, 2024, the majority of Muslim students in Germany prioritize Quran-based regulations over the country's laws.
Key Statistics from the Survey
- 67.8% of Muslim students in Germany believe that the Quran's rules are more important than the German Constitution and national laws.
- 51.5% of respondents think that "only Islam can offer solutions to the current problems."
- 45.8% believe that "the Islamic caliphate is the best form of government."
- 36.5% say German society would be stronger if Islamic rules were applied.
- 35.3% understand and justify violence against those who insult Allah or Muhammad as a form of religious defense.
Reactions and Responses
The survey results have sparked diverse reactions. Christoph de Vries, head of domestic policy for the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), stated that the survey reflects the deepening influence of political Islam in Germany.
"Multiculturalism has long failed. Clarity and consistency are now required if we are to stop the assault of fanatics," he said.
Karin Prien, Schleswig-Holstein's education minister and CDU vice president, expressed concern over the survey results, attributing them to the roles of families, schools, political education centers, and mosque communities.
Stefan Dull, president of the Federation of Teachers, found the survey results disturbing and unacceptable, emphasizing the need to halt tolerance towards Islamism.
Growing Attraction to Islam in Europe
Undeniably, the appeal of Islam in Europe is increasing, particularly amidst tensions related to the Palestine-Israel conflict. Many people worldwide, including in Europe, support Palestinian independence and seek to learn more about Islam.
According to The National Pulse on April 24, 2024, the German government is considering measures to curb illegal immigration and intensify deportations while continuing to support the liberalization of citizenship procedures and lowering employment standards to attract more immigrants.
Demographic Shifts in Germany
Over the past two decades, the open-border policies initiated by former Chancellor Angela Merkel and maintained by Chancellor Scholz have significantly altered Germany's demographics. In 2021, individuals with a migration background (those who immigrated or have parents born abroad) represented over a quarter of Germany's population, reaching a record high of 22.3 million.
Increasing Muslim Population in the West
The number of Muslims in Western countries continues to rise. In the UK, for instance, there has been a significant increase in the Muslim population, with nearly half sympathizing with the conflict in Palestine.
