How artificial intelligence is threatening to replace human workers in various sectors

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a technology that enables machines to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as understanding language, recognizing images, making decisions, and learning from data.

AI has been advancing rapidly in recent years, thanks to the availability of large amounts of data, powerful computing resources, and innovative algorithms.

AI has many benefits for society, such as improving health care, education, entertainment, security, and productivity.

However, AI also poses significant challenges and risks, especially for the future of work. Many experts warn that AI could disrupt and displace millions of workers across various sectors and occupations, as machines become more capable and cheaper than humans.

According to a 2013 study by Oxford University, 47 percent of jobs in the United States are at risk of being automated by AI within the next 20 years. A 2016 report by the World Economic Forum estimated that 5 million jobs in 15 major economies could be lost to automation by 2020. A 2017 study by McKinsey & Company projected that up to 800 million workers globally could be displaced by automation by 2030.

While some jobs may be completely eliminated by AI, others may be transformed or augmented by it. Some new jobs may also be created by AI, such as data scientists, AI engineers, and AI ethicists.

However, the pace and scale of these changes are uncertain and depend on various factors, such as the level of technological innovation, the adoption of AI by businesses and consumers, the availability of skills and education, and the regulation and governance of AI.

Here are some examples of professions that are facing a high risk of being replaced by AI in the near future:

1. Computer-related jobs (coding, computer programming, software engineering, data analysis)

These jobs require skills and knowledge in creating and manipulating computer programs and data. However, AI tools such as ChatGPT can generate code faster and more accurately than humans.

AI can also analyze large and complex data sets better than humans, using techniques such as machine learning and deep learning. Therefore, many computer-related jobs could be automated or outsourced to AI systems.

2. Media-related jobs (advertising, content creation, writing, journalism)

These jobs involve producing and distributing information and entertainment for various audiences and platforms. However, AI can also read, write, and understand text-based data very well.

AI can create content such as cover letters, children's books, essays, news articles, and even novels. AI can also optimize advertising campaigns based on user preferences and behavior. Therefore, many media-related jobs could be replaced or supplemented by AI.

3. Transportation-related jobs (bus drivers, taxi drivers, truck drivers)

These jobs involve moving people or goods from one place to another using vehicles. However, autonomous vehicles are becoming more advanced and reliable thanks to AI technologies such as computer vision, sensor fusion, and path planning.

Autonomous vehicles can operate without human intervention or supervision in various environments and conditions. Therefore, many transportation-related jobs could be eliminated or reduced by autonomous vehicles.

4. Retail-related jobs (cashiers, store clerks)

These jobs involve selling goods or services to customers in physical or online stores. However, AI can also perform these tasks using self-checkout machines or online platforms that can process payments and orders automatically.

AI can also provide customer service using chatbots or voice assistants that can answer questions and provide recommendations. Therefore, many retail-related jobs could be replaced or assisted by AI.

5. Banking-related jobs (tellers, bank clerks)

These jobs involve handling financial transactions and records for customers in banks or other financial institutions.

However, AI can also do these tasks using online banking systems or mobile apps that can transfer money, pay bills, deposit checks, and manage accounts securely and conveniently.

AI can also provide financial advice using robo-advisors or algorithms that can analyze market trends and optimize investment portfolios. Therefore, many banking-related jobs cou

ld be replaced or supported by AI.
