Short-termm memory is needed by humans to keep information in mind while carrying out a task or job. Short-term memory is responsible for understanding, problem solving reasoning, and decision making.

Researchers from Germany have conducted a study of 28 heterosexual men with an average age of 26 years. The men were asked to look at some pictures on a computer screen. Some of the images are pornographic and others are not. Images that do not contain pornographic elements are images of people laughing, exercising, and driving.

After the men had seen the pictures, they had to press a "yes" or "no" button to indicate the image they saw next was the same image they had seen before. As a result, they answered more incorrectly on images containing pornographic elements, compared to images that did not contain those elements.

On average, men answered 80 percent correctly on non-pornographic images, and 67 percent correctly on pornographic images. Their short-term memory abilities become worse because they are disturbed by their sexual desire and desire to perform sexual activities. when viewing pornographic images.

"Sexual arousal has a lot to do with short-term memory, which is an important aspect of executive function," said Christian Laier, a student at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany who conducted the study at the time.

The study, which has been published in the Journal of Sex Research, can help psychologists understand why people who are addicted to porn often forget to sleep, miss appointments, responsibilities, work, and have problems with their partners.

So, according to the researchers, that sexual arousal is very influential on the cognitive impairment that is the basis for these negative things to happen.
