A priest becomes a convert in a dialogue.
As narrated and written by Abdurrahman Ahmad As-Sirbuny in his book '198 Stories of Hajj Wali-Wali Allah'. The story tells of an old priest who is very knowledgeable. Every year he was visited by many Christians from various regions to ask various things.
With the power and destiny of Allah, he was met with a person who was also very knowledgeable from the Islamic scholars at that time, namely Muhammad al- Bagir bin Ali bin Husain Rah. He is one of the great-grandsons of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam.
Here's the story:
That at one time, Muhammad al- Bagir bin Ali bin Husain Rah walked around the village preaching to meet the people.
In the middle of the road, when he arrived at the field, Muhammad al-Baqir saw many people gathering. He asked an official who was there.
"Who are they?" asked al- Bagir.
He (the official) replied, "They are Christians and their followers. They are gathered here because on this hill there is a priest who is smart. Every year they will come here to ask various problems. Incidentally today they gather."
Then Muhammad al-Baqir rah. approached them and joined them. He deliberately covered his head so as not to be recognized.
The priest was very old and he claimed to have met some followers of Prophet Isa (as) who were called 'Hawariyyun'.
His eyes were very sharp. He saw one by one the faces of his followers. When his gaze fell on Al-Baqir rah's face, he asked him.
"Are you a Christian or a Muhammadan?"
Muhammad al-Baqir replied, "I am a follower of Muhammad."
"Are you a scholar from among Muhammad's people or his ignorant followers?" asked the priest again.
"I'm not his ignorant follower."
Hearing Muhammad al-Baqir's answer, the priest trembled.
Then he asked, "Did I ask you or did you ask me.
"Please you who ask," replied Al-Baqir.
"Well, it's really rare for Muhammad's followers to ask me something."
Then the priest began to ask, "What is neither night nor day?"
"The time of Fajr until before sunrise," replied Al-Baqir firmly.
"When will that happen?"
“When you are in heaven. At that time (the time from Fajr to before sunrise) the sick person will feel healthy and well. The pain will go away. Whoever does not sleep and do good deeds at that time (from Fajr to before sunrise), he will find pleasure in the Hereafter. Meanwhile, those who did not do good at that time, will be rewarded in the hereafter."
"Your answer is correct," the priest confirmed Al-Baqir's answer.
Then he asked, "The inhabitants of heaven will eat and drink, but not urinate and defecate. What is the example of understanding this?"
Lightly Al-Baqir rah. replied, "His parable is like that of a baby in his mother's womb. He eats and drinks as his mother eats and drinks, but he does not urinate or defecate."
The priest asked again, “The fruits of heaven will not spoil even if they are eaten several times. What is the example of understanding this?”
“His parable is like a hundred thousand lamps being lit. Even if one or two are damaged, the light will not decrease," replied Al-Baqir.
The priest was very impressed with the intelligence and breadth of knowledge possessed by Al-Baqir rah. Subhanallah, it was told that at that time the priest declared his Islam.
This is the story of a priest who received guidance because he wanted to open his heart to the truth. The truth conveyed by Muhammad al- Bagir bin Ali bin Husayn Rah. Hope it is useful..
