Every human being on this earth will face tests in various forms, be it financial problems, health issues, the loss of loved ones, or challenges in marriage. In facing these tests, we are reminded to always remember that Allah SWT has a greater plan for all of us.
In the Quran, Allah SWT states that He will test His servants with various trials as a means to measure our faith and patience.
Allah SWT also states in Surah Al-Baqarah:
"And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return." Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided." [Quran 2:155]
The above verse from Surah Al-Baqarah explains that Allah will test us with fear, hunger, loss of wealth, and life. However, for those who patiently endure hardships, Allah promises to give glad tidings.
So we all know how it feels to lose something we love. This is when your faith is truly tested. And when we are tested with difficulties, what will we do? Will we complain why is this happening to me? or cry, or will we stand firm and upright and believe in Allah SWT?
Those who patiently endure without complaining will receive great rewards, while those who are impatient will not receive anything.
The Story of Prophet Job (Ayub AS): Symbol of Patience
Prophet Job (Ayub AS) is an exemplary example of patience. Despite being tested with a severe illness, he remained patient and never complained to Allah SWT.
Islam teaches us to be patient with whatever befalls us as in the story of Prophet Job (Ayub AS), Allah SWT tested Prophet Job in such a way that his health was taken from him. Historians have written that not a single part of his body was spared from the disease except his tongue and his heart, which always remembered Allah SWT.
The hardship worsened to the point where people severed ties with him and expelled him from the city because of his illness. The only person there who supported him was his wife, Rahima.
Prophet Job's Prayer
Despite all the hardships, Job AS remained patient, steadfast, and grateful. He was always busy remembering Allah SWT during the day and night. After years of patience and hardship, his wife Rahima said to him,
"O Ayyub, why don't you ask Allah to help you?" He replied, "I have lived for seventy years in prosperity, why should I not be patient for the sake of Allah for seventy years?" After that, Job recited the following prayer which Allah SWT has mentioned in Surah Al-Anbiya Ayah 83:
“And [mention] Job, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed, adversity has touched me, and you are the Most Merciful of the merciful." [Quran 21:83]
In Surah Al-Anbiya verse 83, Prophet Job AS called upon Allah in a state of illness, seeking His mercy. Allah SWT answered his prayer, cured him of his disease, and restored his family as a sign of mercy and a reminder for the worshipers.
Allah SWT healed him and restored everything to him, as stated in the next verse of Surah Al-Anbiya Ayah 84:
"So We responded to him and removed what afflicted him of adversity. And We gave him [back] his family and the like thereof with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for the worshippers [of Allah]." [Quran 21:84]
So in times of difficulty and hardship, when you think everything is lost and there is no hope, remember to have patience. In due time, Allah SWT will free you from all worries, and you will receive multiple rewards for enduring with patience.
Remember, Allah SWT is always with you!

Hadiths About Patience
Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri: Some Ansari persons asked for (something) from Allah's Messenger (ï·º) and he gave them. They again asked him for (something) and he again gave them. And then they asked him and he gave them again till all that was with him finished. And then he said,
"If I had anything, I would not keep it away from you.
