Previously, Irwan came from a Jewish family and spent his childhood in Surabaya before continuing his education in Los Angeles, United States.
Jusuf Hamka
Jusuf Hamka, affectionately known as Baba Alun, is also one of the wealthiest individuals in Indonesia who embraced Islam. He is the owner of PT Citra Marga Nusaphala Persada, a toll road company, and is known for his philanthropic efforts in helping others.
Jusuf Hamka has a goal to build 1,000 mosques, one of which has been built under the Ir Wiyoto Wiyono toll road. The mosque has a distinctive Chinese architectural style and provides a community hall that can be used by the public without any charges. In addition, Jusuf Hamka often sells a portion of rice for only Rp3,000.
Lee Kang Hyun
Lee Kang Hyun, Vice President of Samsung Electronics Indonesia, also converted to Islam. He has been working at Samsung Indonesia since 1993 and has been responsible for many international activities. His last position was Corporate Business and Corporate Affairs Vice President, PT Samsung Electronics Indonesia (SEIN).
However, after decades of working in the electronics company, Lee decided to switch to the automotive industry. Currently, Lee also serves as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Johari Zein
Johari Zein is an entrepreneur and company owner who also converted to Islam. He was born in Medan, North Sumatra in 1954 and is the owner of JNE, an expedition company.
Johari Zein comes from a Chinese Buddhist merchant family, but he decided to embrace Islam and make the Quran his guiding principle in life around 1982. Johari even has a grand vision of building 99 mosques.
HM Jos Soetomo
HM Jos Soetomo is known as a successful entrepreneur of Chinese descent from Kalimantan who has embraced Islam.
HM Jos Soetomo is listed as one of the top 150 wealthiest individuals in Indonesia according to Globe Asia in 2017, ranking 93rd with an estimated wealth of US$430 million or around Rp5.5 trillion.
His financial success was achieved through rapidly growing businesses. He is also well-known for building four Cheng Hoo Mosques located in Balikpapan, Batuah Kutai Kartanegara, and Samarinda. His actions demonstrate his commitment to practicing Islam and making positive contributions to the surrounding community.
