In our daily lives, we often encounter disturbances from jin, demons, or other supernatural beings at home, office, or other places.
The symptoms can vary, such as possession, anxiety, restlessness, laziness in worship, incoherent speech, unexplained illnesses, and other strange manifestations.
However, sometimes efforts to expel them, such as reciting verses from the Quran and the like, are not effective. For example, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once encountered an Ifrit jin who came carrying a torch of fire on the night when the jin heard the Quran.
Although he recited verses from the Quran, the jin approached closer. Then, Archangel Jibril offered assistance to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by teaching him some phrases that, when recited, would make the jin fall down and extinguish its torch.
The prayer taught by Archangel Jibril to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for repelling troublesome jin is as follows:
A‘ûdzu biwajhillâhil karîm, wabikalimâtillâhit-tâmmâtil-latî lâ yujâwizuhunnâ barrun wa fâjirun, min syarri mâ yanzilu minas-samâ’i, wa min syarri ma ya‘ruju fîhâ, wa min syarri mâ dzara’a fil-ardhi, wamin syarri ma yakhruju minhâ, wa min syarri fitanil-laili wan-nahâri, wamin syarri thawâriqil-laili, wamin syarri kulli thârinin illâ thâriqan yathruqu bi khairin, yâ rahmân.
"I seek refuge in the glorious presence of Allah, with His perfect words, which no righteous or wicked person can surpass, from the evils that descend from the heavens and the evils that ascend to the heavens; from the evils that enter the earth and the evils that come out of the earth; from the evils of daytime and nighttime afflictions; from the evils of calamities that occur at night; from the evils of every calamity that comes, except for calamities that bring goodness, O Merciful Being."
This is the miraculous prayer of Jibril, the angel, to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for protection against jinn. May we also receive blessings from this prayer, especially when facing jinn disturbances.
