Maurice Bucaille, Researcher on Pharaoh's Mummy Proves the Truth of the Qur'an

In mid-1975, an offer from the French government came to the Egyptian government. The European country offered to help research, study and analyze Pharaoh's mummies.

The offer has been welcomed by the Egyptian government. After receiving the blessing of the Egyptian government, the Pharaoh's mummy was then transported to France. In fact, the French even made a party to welcome the arrival of the mummy of Pharaoh with a very lively party.

Pharaoh's mummy was taken to a special room in the French Antiquities Center. The next stage is research on the mummy as well as revealing the secret behind it by leading scientists and surgeons and autopsy experts in France. The lead surgeon as well as the main person in charge of the mummy research is Prof. Dr. Maurice Bucaille.

Short bio of Prof. Dr. Maurice Bucaille

Prof. Dr. Maurice Bucaille is a renowned French surgeon and has headed the surgical clinic at the University of Paris. He was born in Pont-L'Eveque, France, on July 19, 1920. Bucaille started his career in medicine and in 1945, he became a gastroenterologist. And in 1973, he was appointed a family doctor by King Faisal of Saudi Arabia.

Not only members of King Faisal's family became his patients. Family members of the Egyptian President at that time, Anwar Sadat, are also known to be on the list of patients who have used his services.

His name became famous when he wrote books on the Bible, the Koran, and modern science. The title of the original book in French is La Bible, le Coran et la Science, published around 1976.

Interested Prof. Dr. Maurice Bucaille towards Islam began to emerge when he intensely studied biology and its relationship with several religious doctrines. Therefore, when the opportunity came for Bucaille to research, study, and analyze the mummy of the Pharaoh, he put all his might into uncovering the mystery behind the cause of the death of the ancient Egyptian king.

Pharaoh Mummies, A Modern Medical Research (Les momies des Pharaons et la midecine)

As it turned out, the final result he obtained was very surprising! The remains of salt attached to the body of the mummy is the greatest evidence that the king Pharaoh really had died by drowning. His body was immediately removed from the sea and then embalmed to be immediately mummified to make it durable.

The discovery still leaves a question in the professor's head. How can the body be better than the other bodies, even though he was removed from the sea?

Prof Bucaille then prepared a final report on what he believed to be a new discovery, namely the rescue of Pharaoh's corpse from the sea and its preservation.

This final report he published under the title Mummy of the Pharaoh; A Modern Medical Research, with its original title, Les momies des Pharaons et la midecine. Thanks to the book, he received the Le prix Diane-Potier-Boes award (award in history) from the Academie Frantaise and the Prix General (General award) from the Academie Nationale de Medicine, France.

Regarding his final report, one of his colleagues whispered something in his ear and said:
"Don't be in a hurry because actually the Muslims have talked about the sinking of this mummy."
Bucaille at first vehemently denied this news and thought it was impossible.

According to the professor, disclosure of secrets like this is impossible to know except with the development of modern science, through sophisticated, modern and accurate equipment.

Finally one of them said that the Koran which is believed by Muslims to have narrated the story of the sinking of Pharaoh and then saving his body. That phrase confused Bucaille even more. Then, he began to think and wonder. How could it happen? In fact, the mummy was only discovered around 1898 AD, while the Koran had existed thousands of years before.

He sat all night looking at Pharaoh's corpse and kept thinking about it. His colleague's words still ring in his mind, that the Koran – the holy book of Muslims – has long talked about the story of Pharaoh whose body was saved from destruction thousands of years ago. Meanwhile, in the scriptures of other religions, only talk about the sinking of Pharaoh in the middle of the ocean while chasing Moses, and does not talk about Pharaoh's corpse. Bucaille was even more confused and kept thinking about it.

He said to himself. "Does it make sense that this mummy in front of me is Pharaoh who will arrest Moses? Does it make sense, Muhammad knew about it, even though it happened before the Koran was revealed?"

Prof. Bucaille became difficult to sleep, he asked to be brought the Torah (Old Testament). He also read the Torah which says:

“The waters returned (as before), covered the chariots, the troops horses, and all of Pharaoh's army that went into the sea behind them, not a single one of them remained."

Then he compared it with the Bible. Apparently, the Bible also does not talk about saving Pharaoh's body in a state that is still intact. Because of that, he was even more confused.

Prof. Dr. Maurice Bucaille Pledges to Convert to Islam

After repairing the Pharaoh's corpse and mummifying it, the French returned the mummy to Egypt. However, there was no happy decision for the professor. There was no thought that made him calm since he got the findings and news from his colleague, namely the news that the Muslims had told each other about the rescue of the corpse. He also decided to meet a number of autopsy scientists from the Muslims.

From here then there was a conversation for the first time with Muslim researchers and scientists. He asked about the life of Moses, the deeds that Pharaoh did, and his pursuit of Moses until he drowned and how Pharaoh's body was saved from the sea.

So, one of the Muslim scientists stood up while opening the manuscript of the Qur'an and reading to Bucaille the word of Allah SWT which means:

"So today we have saved your body so that you may be a lesson to those who come after you and indeed most of the people are heedless of Our signs." (Surah Yunus: 92).

This verse really touched Bucaille's heart. He said that the Koranic verse made sense and encouraged science to move forward. His heart trembled, and the tremor made him stand before the people present exclaiming loudly:

"Indeed I converted to Islam and I believe in this Koran."

His research on the Mummy of Pharaoh led him to the truth of the Koran. He also returned to France with a new face, different from the face when he left first. Since embracing Islam, he has spent his time researching the level of compatibility of scientific nature and modern discoveries with the Qur'an, as well as looking for a scientific contradiction that the Qur'an talks about.

He then published all the results of his research under the title The Bible, the Koran and Modern Science, the original title in French, La Bible, le Coran et la Science. This book, which was released in 1976, became an international best-seller in the Muslim world and has been translated into almost all the major languages of Muslims in the world.

This work explains that the Qur'an is very consistent with science and science, while the Bible or the Bible is not. Bucaille in his book criticizes the Bible which he considers inconsistent and its descent into doubt.
